In India, Facebook announces the new feature which allows you to ‘lock your profile’. It getting access to details and photos. The new feature is to keep the program safe, especially for women, and secure their privacy. Facebook launches this feature only for Android devices. Therefore, it is presently not available on the iPhone and Web.
“We are deeply aware of the concerns people in India, particularly women, have about protecting their online profile,” said Ankhi Das, Public Policy Director at Facebook India.
As we all know that women face this risk. In fact, women find themselves being trolled on various social media platforms. The Director and Centre for Social Research, Ranjana Kumari said that she is very happy that Facebook is trying to learn about the concerns of women, mostly the young girls a chance to convey.
Step’s to lock your profile on Android:
- First step is to open your Facebook profile.
- Tap on the 3-dot menu.
- There will be an option of ‘Lock Profile’, tap on the ‘Lock Your Profile’ to follow.
If a non-friend person chooses to use this feature, they won’t be able to share the information of the account like, they can’t download or share the profile picture or the cover photo. They will also not be able to view the timeline or the posts of the user. The public post will only be possible if the profile is unlocked.
Once you activate this feature, you won’t be able to post it publicly. The public post will only be possible if you unlock the profile again. Roxna Irani, the Facebook product manager said that the safety of the photos is a topic which we are hearing for a very long time, and this feature is one step forward to limit the posts and the photos from being seen by the strangers. You can get tagged in other people’s post but it will not appear on your timeline unless and until you don’t allow it to show on your timeline.
