Apple is on the outlook for various countries where it can set up their companies’ production plants. The company is already using its partners in India to manufacture the old iPhone models like iPhone 11. Now as per report suggests the brand has set on making the upcoming iPhone 12 in India as well.
As per sources, the Business Standard report, the company will manufacture out of Bengaluru. The company has evidently set up a new facility in Narsapura for manufacturing the new iPhone 12. Apple is yet to officially confirm the launch plans for iPhone 12 this year. The reports point out the company is facing production delays because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The trade restrictions in China have apparently forced the company to eye other countries has its manufacturing hub.

The setup for iPhone 12 production at the Narasapura plant is located in Kolar district, about 70 km from Bengaluru. Wistron was allotted 43 acres by the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) when it announced its plans for production in 2017. The manufacturing company at Kolar is supposed to produce 10,000 jobs. The Wistron company has already hired 2,000 locals.
Sources who are familiar with this matter told the New Indian Express that the hiring will take place in a gradual manner. Right now, walk-in interviews of diploma graduates are getting conducted. Other interviews will be conducted soon like more experienced people and also freshers. Wistron has started its trial production and they will start the commercial production of iPhones in Kolar by September.
It is not yet decided which product will be manufacturing but, reports in the past have marked that the Wistron company manufactures units at its new plant in Southern India and will collect Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) for iPhones.
The local production of iPhones will save up to 22% of import taxes and can create new job opportunities for the local people in India. The iPhone 12 will be the 7th iPhone model to be manufactured in India, by giving an improvement of the government’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’. Apple has manufactured so many iPhones in India which includes iPhone 6s, iPhone 7, iPhone XR, iPhone SE, and iPhone 11.
Apple is looking for local production in India for iPhone SE (2020) models. iPhone 12 might get released in October 2020. Apple which still makes most of the iPhone in China, now slowly will move their production in countries like Washington and Beijing.
