In Safari on iOS 14, the password and pins will be replaced by Touch ID or Face ID. It is because the Face ID or the Touch ID data don’t let anyone use your phone or see your privacy. This technology is called FIDO – Fast Identify Online which is taking place for the future without passwords.
Apple announced this authentication support in Safari on the 24th of June, 2020. The Truck ID and the Face ID both are the most secure things to protect your phone. The Apple Safari programmer, Jiewen Tan said that “During one of the WWDC video sessions Apple offered after the coronavirus pandemic pushed the conference online.”
For this new feature, the website owner needs to apply through Apple’s new Web API. This feature is currently available in the Safari 14 developer beta. Apple will let all the website developers use this feature by July this year.
Safari 14 – Replacing Passwords:
FIDO technology shows the weakness of password technology and allows authentication with no passwords. This shows how websites and applications take advantage of the security keys and biometric authentication. The bolstering passwords with the two-factor authentication systems which are more secure than SMS codes. It allows two-factor authentication with no password and that is a PC or phone or security key, the second one is fingerprint or face.
The big benefit of FIDO is blocks phishing, and the other benefit is there are no passwords for hackers to steal. The fishing completed stops when Google switches its employees to the security keys and FIDO technology to bolster authentication. The main idea of FIDO is to dump passwords. Username and Passwords login is falling back for the people who forgot their laptop password or have lost their mobile phones.
