Google Cancels Pixel Tablet 2, Focus Shifts Toward Future Tablet Endeavors. In a surprising move, Google has canceled the Pixel Tablet 2, not the Pixel Tablet 3 as initially rumored. This development clarifies confusion stemming from earlier reports about the company’s tablet lineup, highlighting the challenges faced in the competitive tablet market.

The decision to discontinue the Pixel Tablet 2, codenamed “kiyomi,” reportedly stems from profitability concerns. Sources suggest Google doubted the device’s ability to compete effectively in a market dominated by rivals like Apple and Samsung. Initially planned to feature a Tensor G4 chip and be available in both Wi-Fi-only and 5G variants, the device aimed to build on the Pixel Tablet’s unique integration with the Google ecosystem. However, concerns about its market viability ultimately led to the project’s termination.

Contrary to initial speculation, the Pixel Tablet 3 remains on the horizon. Reports indicate it could feature significant upgrades, including the Tensor G6 chip, potentially debuting in 2027. This aligns with Google’s strategy to focus on more robust, next-generation devices that could better compete in the premium tablet segment.

This cancellation and postponement of tablets could simply be part of Google’s strategy. There are already rumors that it is considering a merger of Android and Chrome OS for future tablets and laptops – presenting a multi-functional integration of work and entertainment. It could be why the Pixel Tablet 2 was effectively forgotten, though present efforts might instead be poured into a better lineup of devices.

Although the cancellation of Pixel Tablet 2 pains fans they remind of that Google is a company that aims to create devices that will appeal to users and are more viable on the market. If implemented, Google’s vision of tablets may be well captured by Pixel Tablet 3.

This decision is an exciting yet conservative one for Google as it repositions the company in the tablet market.
